On Freebie Fridays you can find a free game to check out courtesy of Gamer Reverie. The genres and quality will vary, so be sure to check each time to see what I've dug up for you!
This won't be a series with a ton of pictures and
explanations. Just a glance at the stats, a quick description of the game
and its genre, and why I thought it was worth sharing (aside from being
free).
THE STATS
Name: FrostRunnerDeveloper: Think Arcade
Release Date: January 1, 2019
Genres: Action, free to play, indie
Available: Steam
FrostRunner is a first-person platformer “speedrunning” game, where the player is tasked with rapidly completing platforming challenges before the timer runs out. The game is set in a desolate, frozen environment seemingly abandoned by all life. Scattered throughout the icy landscape are mysterious energy crystals emanating a strange power. The player navigates 36 levels of arctic terrain using their platforming skills and a tool that allows them to tether between crystals. The constantly ticking timer encourages players to complete levels as quickly as possible and compete with others to earn their place at the top of the leaderboards.
Features:
- Fast-Paced Movement Mechanics
- 36 Levels
- Leaderboards
- Achievements
- Collectables
- Unlockable Challenge Levels
This is a student-made game that pretty much everyone
agrees is absolutely solid! The only real complaints are small bugs that
don't deter players from simply saying oops, laughing it off, and
replaying. And that's small potatoes compared to some of the AAA train
wrecks we've seen, right? I'm not usually a fan of platformers (my Twitch
followers know this well, I would hope), but there's something intriguing
about the mechanics set up in this one. As several reviewers on Steam have
noted, it is very clearly a unique game that doesn't copy any others. And
it's free! What do you have to lose?
