Learning LOTRO: Lesson Four - The Hunter Class

In this new series, I talk about various aspects of The Lord of the Rings Online. This series is meant for newcomers, but may also help veteran players find more to love about the game.

Back in February, I sent out a poll asking LOTRO players to rank the classes from their favorite to least favorite. Not surprisingly to me, the #1 favorite class of the bunch turned out to be the Hunter class with 28.1% of the vote. Not long after I closed the poll results, I created a new baby Hunter and named her Glasbren, which means "sapling" in Welsh.

The following is a basic summary of the creation process and some of the things you'll encounter when you start out in LOTRO with a Hunter.

Learning LOTRO: Lesson Three - Character Building

In this new series, I talk about various aspects of The Lord of the Rings Online. This series is meant for newcomers, but may also help veteran players find more to love about the game.

Whether it's your first character in LOTRO (or an MMO in general) or your twenty-fifth, you always have to make choices about your character. Some people do as little as possible while others spend hours customizing every slider and color to perfection. This entry is not going to guide you through what choices you ought to make -- but it may help you get a feel for how to build a character you connect with and enjoy being represented by in-game.

Learning LOTRO: Lesson Two - 5 Recommendations for New Players

In this new series, I talk about various aspects of The Lord of the Rings Online. This series is meant for newcomers, but may also help veteran players find more to love about the game.

These items are my personal recommendations to players who have tasted enough of LOTRO to know they want to continue playing and are willing to spend some LOTRO Points to improve their experience. It's important to note that you can complete a lot of deeds in the game and receive LOTRO Points as a reward. If you do this enough, you can skip purchasing Points with real money.
