Soundtrack Saturday: Monster Hunter World

On Soundtrack Saturdays I recommend game soundtracks. I share a few of my favorite tracks, talk about why everyone should listen to the soundtrack, and a little bit about the composer. This week's choice is Monster Hunter World by CAPCOM.

MY FAVORITE TRACKS

(The full list of tracks are linked by playlist below... and I highly recommend some good headphones to best enjoy all of the subtle elements of the music!)

Stars at Our Backs
(Length: 4:37) This is the main theme! Turn up the volume, because it's epic!

Guiding Lamp to the Otherworld
(Length: 4:29) You'd think this was about a place, from the title -- but it's actually for the final boss of story mode, Xeno'jiiva. It has a great overall sound, doesn't it?

Bazelgeuse Theme
(Length: 4:41) This track is included mainly because of what it means to MHW players when they hear it. Bazelgeuse was introduced in MHW and holds an oh-so-special place in our hearts. Or maybe that's just a fiery scale lodged in our torso, about to explode?

Dreams of Tomorrow
(Length: 4:23) This is relaxing music that will play in your private quarters. It makes me think of some of the meditation music I've heard played in spas!

Astera Theme
(Length: 5:07) If you're playing the game, you get VERY familiar with Astera... even after you move on to some other areas, it's easier to go take care of some things in Astera (it's just laid out better in my opinion). This theme will get stuck in your head.

(Length: 3:03) This is the music heralding a festival or a vendor sale, and I love that it retains the percussive elements of the usual Astera theme but adds a whole layer of beautiful strings. It's lighter and more cheerful!

(Length: 2:43) It's the harp and flutes and chimes in this that makes it special to me. I had to include it because this is not your typical track from an action game where you hunt monsters!

WHY DO I RECOMMEND IT?

The depth of the compositions really gives everything in the game that much more vibrance, and lends to better immersion as well. The music is a joy to listen to and can easily be played in the background simply to have something pleasant for your ears.

THE COMPOSER(S)

There is some consistency in who has produced music for the series over the years -- and many have worked together on other CAPCOM series as well!
